Big Lamp is where Westgate Road, Elswick Road and Corporation Street meet. In the old days there used to be a big gas lamp on Elswick Road where it joined Westgate Road.
The lamp is long gone, but lives on in the name of some of the businesses along Elswick Road. It also marks the corner of Westgate Cemetery, now in disuse.
The three tower blocks along Westgate Road are known as the Westgate Multi Flats.
